Juomapullot

Juomapullot are containers designed to hold beverages for drinking. They come in a variety of materials, sizes and styles and are used for liquids such as water, juice, soft drinks and beer. The Finnish term juomapullo covers both single-use and reusable bottles.

Materials and sizes vary by purpose. Glass bottles are common for beer, wine and premium beverages; PET and other plastics are widely used for soft drinks and water; metal bottles made from aluminium or stainless steel are typical for reusable sports bottles. Typical capacities range from about 0.2 to 0.5 liters for individual servings, with larger sizes such as 0.75 to 1 liter used for juices and daily beverages. Some bottles reach 1.5 to 2 liters for family use or concentrates.

Closures also differ: screw caps, crown caps, flip-top lids or corks depending on the drink. Bottles designed for carbonation require compatible closures and plastic liners; still beverages may use simple caps. Design features such as light protection (dark glass or opaque plastic) help preserve contents.

Recycling and sustainability are important considerations. Glass can be recycled indefinitely; PET and other plastics are widely recycled into new bottles or other products. Many regions operate deposit return schemes that encourage bottle collection and recycling. Reusable metal and glass bottles are promoted to reduce waste.

Historically, bottles have been used for centuries, with glass bottles becoming common from the early modern period. The modern market includes mass-market PET bottles, returnable glass bottles and durable reusable containers. In Finland, juomapullot are integrated with the pantti system, which supports recycling through deposits on beverage containers.
