Jundars

The Jundars are a fictional ethnolinguistic community described in comparative ethnography and regional fiction. They are traditionally based in the highland valleys of Veridia, a mountainous region in the northern part of the continent of Aethria. They are distinguished by the Jundari language and a set of crafts, social structures, and customary celebrations.

Jundari is considered a member of the Verdanic language group, characterized by agglutinative morphology and vowel harmony, with a legacy of oral literature and a script historically used in religious and administrative texts. In modern settings, Jundari is taught in schools alongside a regional lingua franca.

Society is organized around extended kin networks and clan lineages. An elder council mediates disputes and allocates communal resources. Marriage ties link multiple clans, and lineage determines inheritance and social status. Traditional dress includes hand-woven wool cloaks and embroidered tunics; gender roles are varied and undergoing change with modernization.

Economy combines terraced agriculture (barley, legumes), pastoralism (sheep, goats), and crafts such as weaving and metalwork. Tourism and handicraft markets have become components of the local economy. Villages are often located along terraced slopes with terraced fields and stone houses.

History traces the emergence of the Jundars between the 12th and 14th centuries, with periods of relative autonomy and subsequent incorporation into larger regional polities. In recent decades, Jundar communities have formed diaspora networks in neighboring regions. Language preservation and cultural revival initiatives are ongoing, including community schools and cultural festivals.
