Jundari

Jundari is a fictional city-state and archipelago in the southern seas of the realm of Aeldara. It comprises a jagged mainland coast and about a dozen coral islets arranged around two natural harbors. The name is thought to come from an old seafaring dialect meaning shore-dwellers.

Geography and climate: The region has a tropical monsoon climate with warm seas and seasonal rains. Harbors are protected by reefs and breakwaters; inland, mangroves, terraced hills, and paddy fields meet the sea.

History and government: Jundari emerged as a trading hub in the early medieval era, uniting coastal clans under a merchant federation. It is governed by the Merchant Council, which includes guild representatives and town delegates. A ceremonial prince acts as head of state, while real power rests with the council.

Economy: The economy centers on shipping, shipbuilding, spice and textile trade, and fishing. Market towns produce sailcloth, ropes, and navigational instruments. Education is valued, with coastal academies teaching seamanship, cartography, and diplomacy.

Culture and landmarks: Jundari is culturally diverse, with several languages and religious communities. Notable sites include the Temple of Winds, the Coral Market, and the Blue Gate Docks, a celebrated harbor complex.
