Joji

Joji is the stage name of George Kusunoki Miller, a Japanese–Australian singer, songwriter, and record producer born on September 18, 1992. He was born in Osaka, Japan, and spent part of his childhood in Japan before moving to Australia, where he later developed his musical career. Miller initially gained prominence as a YouTube personality under the alias Filthy Frank, part of the online persona movement that produced satirical and provocative content. He gradually shifted his focus toward music, adopting the Joji moniker for his releases.

As Joji, Miller released his first project, the In Tongues EP, in 2017. This was followed by a string of increasingly successful releases, including the full-length album Ballads 1 in 2018 and the 2020 album Nectar. In 2022, he released the album Smithereens, which included the popular single Glimpse of Us. Notable singles that gained wide attention include Slow Dancing in the Dark from Ballads 1, Sanctuary from Nectar, and Glimpse of Us. Miller is associated with 88rising, a media company and record label that has helped promote his music and other Asian artists.

Musically, Joji blends elements of R&B, lo-fi, trip hop, and alternative music, with a focus on introspective lyrics and melancholic mood. His work is characterized by understated production and a distinctive vocal delivery that often emphasizes emotion over technical showmanship. Joji has achieved international streaming success and chart presence, contributing to a broader visibility of Asian artists in the global music landscape.
