Jetstars

Jetstars is a term that can refer to several different entities, most notably an Australian low-cost airline and a type of Japanese fighter jet.

The Australian airline, Jetstar Airways, is a subsidiary of Qantas. It was founded in 2003 and commenced operations in 2004. Jetstar operates a network of domestic and international flights across Australia, New Zealand, Southeast Asia, and East Asia. The airline is known for its budget-friendly fares, often requiring passengers to pay extra for services like checked baggage and in-flight meals. Its fleet primarily consists of Airbus A320 family aircraft. Jetstar also operates a long-haul low-cost carrier, Jetstar Asia Airways, based in Singapore, and has affiliations with Jetstar Japan and Jetstar Philippines.

In a different context, "Jetstar" is the colloquial name for the Lockheed F-80 Shooting Star, the first operational jet fighter aircraft used by the United States Army Air Forces. Developed during World War II, the F-80 made its maiden flight in 1944 and entered service shortly thereafter. While it saw limited combat in the late stages of the war, it played a more significant role in the early days of the Korean War. The F-80 was a groundbreaking aircraft for its time, marking a significant step in the advancement of military aviation technology.
