Jacquardvävstolen, often referred to as the Jacquard loom, is a mechanical loom that allowed for significantly automated and simplified production of complex patterned textiles. Invented by Joseph Marie Jacquard in 1804, this innovation revolutionized the textile industry.

The core principle of the Jacquard loom lies in its use of punched cards to control the weaving process. Each card represents a single row of the pattern. Holes punched in the cards allow specific warp threads to be raised or lowered, creating the intricate designs. This system replaced the laborious manual selection of threads previously required for complex patterns.

The punched cards are arranged in a sequence, and as the loom operates, these cards are read sequentially, dictating the precise movement of each warp thread.
