Izvjetaj

Izvještaj, often written as izvještaj in standard Croatian and Bosnian or izveštaj in Serbian Latin (изврештај in Cyrillic), is a formal document that communicates information about events, findings, or status to an audience. It is prepared by individuals or organizations to summarize data, observations, decisions, or results and to provide an accountable record for stakeholders.

The term derives from Slavic roots meaning to inform or report, with the prefix iz- indicating a report written to convey information outward. In practice, izvještaji are produced across domains such as business, government, academia, law enforcement, and journalism.

Common types include financial or annual reports that present performance results; project or program reports that track progress; incident or accident reports that document events and responses; routine operational reports for monitoring conditions; and scientific or technical reports that detail methods, data, and conclusions. Audits, risk assessments, and investigative reports are also frequently issued as formal izvještaji.

A typical izvještaj follows a structured format: title, date and author, an executive or summary section, an introduction or scope, methods or data sources, findings or results, analysis or discussion, conclusions, and recommendations; appendices or references may accompany the document. Language is formal and objective, with clear data presentation and, when appropriate, tables, charts, or diagrams.

Orthographic variants reflect regional use and scripts, but the underlying purpose remains consistent: to provide a concise, evidence-based account for decision-makers, stakeholders, or the public.
