Isografting

Isografting refers to the surgical transplantation of tissues or organs between genetically identical individuals, typically within the same species. Unlike allogeneic transplantation, which involves tissues from genetically different donors, isografts are derived from donors who share an identical genetic makeup with the recipient. This genetic similarity minimizes the risk of immune rejection, as the recipient’s immune system does not recognize the transplanted tissue as foreign.

In humans, isografts are most commonly performed using identical twins, as they possess nearly identical genetic profiles. This technique is particularly valuable in research and experimental medicine, where consistent outcomes are critical.
