Intrabronchial

Intrabronchial refers to anything that occurs within or is introduced directly into the bronchi, the main passageways of the respiratory system that conduct air into the lungs. This term is often used in medical contexts to describe procedures, conditions, or treatments that involve the bronchi.

Intrabronchial procedures are commonly performed for diagnostic or therapeutic purposes. For instance, an intrabronchial biopsy involves taking a small sample of bronchial tissue for examination, often to diagnose conditions such as lung cancer or infections. Similarly, intrabronchial therapies might include the administration of medications directly into the bronchi to treat localized infections, inflammation, or to manage symptoms of conditions like asthma or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).

Intrabronchial interventions are typically carried out using bronchoscopy, a procedure where a thin, flexible tube with a light and camera is inserted into the airways.
