Interlaboratoriske refers to activities and studies that involve more than one laboratory to compare and benchmark test results. In practice, interlaboratoriske (interlaboratory) comparisons are conducted through programs such as ring tests and proficiency testing, often administered as external quality assessment (EQA) schemes. Laboratories receive identical or commensurate samples and report their measurements using their routine methods. The aggregated results are analyzed to assess agreement, identify systematic biases, and quantify precision across participating sites.

The main purposes are to verify the accuracy and comparability of measurements, support method validation, guide corrective actions, and satisfy regulatory or accreditation requirements. Methods commonly employed include ring trials, where a single sample is distributed to multiple labs; and ongoing proficiency testing programs, in which a set of challenges is repeated periodically. Statistical analyses may use z-scores, robust statistics, or consensus reference values to flag outliers and to benchmark performance.

Interlaboratoriske activities are used in many fields, including clinical chemistry, environmental analysis, microbiology, and industrial quality control. They contribute to standardization by highlighting methodological differences, equipment effects, or operator variability. Implementation typically involves selecting or preparing appropriate test materials, ensuring sample homogeneity and stability, collecting participating lab data, and providing feedback and corrective recommendations.

Limitations include the cost and logistics of coordinating multiple laboratories, potential non-participation bias, and the challenge of comparing results obtained with different methods or instruments. When designed well, interlaboratoriske programs enhance data quality, support accreditation, and increase confidence in laboratory measurements.
