Integrationsadapter

An Integrationsadapter, often shortened to adapter, is a software component or module designed to facilitate communication and data exchange between different systems or applications. In essence, it acts as a translator, mediating between systems that may use different protocols, data formats, or programming interfaces. Without an adapter, disparate systems would struggle to understand each other, hindering interoperability and the seamless flow of information.

The primary function of an adapter is to abstract the complexities of one system from another. It takes data in a format understood by one system, transforms it into a format understood by another, and vice versa. This transformation can involve reformatting data structures, converting between different communication protocols (like HTTP, SOAP, or REST), or handling authentication and authorization mechanisms.
