Instrumenterings

Instrumenterings (plural of instrumentering) is a term used in Danish and Norwegian to refer to instrumentation—the design, installation, and management of devices used to measure, monitor, and control physical processes. In English-language contexts the field is usually called instrumentation or instrumentation engineering; the Scandinavian term often appears in industrial and engineering documentation.

Core focus areas include sensors that measure temperature, pressure, flow, and level; transmitters and actuators; control valves; controllers; and data acquisition systems. Instrumentering involves engineering control loops, where a measured process variable is compared with a reference value to adjust a process variable. Documentation is central, including instrumentation diagrams and piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&ID), loop sheets, and instrument lists. The discipline also covers calibration, maintenance, and safety considerations to ensure reliable operation.

Standards and practices guide symbols, documentation, and reliability. Notable areas are process control, safety instrumented systems, and field instrumentation. Interfaces may involve analog and digital signals, as well as fieldbuses and industrial networks. Knowledge of instrumentation theory, signal conditioning, and instrumentation installation practices is common, along with an understanding of environmental and safety regulations.
