Installasjonsbaserte is a Norwegian adjective meaning “based on installation” or “installation-based.” It is used to describe approaches, systems, works, or processes whose defining characteristics depend on an installation step or on an installed state.

In information technology and software, installasjonsbaserte solutions are those that must be installed on a device to operate. They contrast with portable applications, browser-based software, or cloud services. Common usage refers to software distribution methods such as image-based installations, automated or silent installs, configuration management, licensing, and post-installation setup. The term can also describe deployment models where a software environment is provisioned by installing components on hardware rather than deploying a fully hosted service.

In art and culture, installasjonsbasert describes works designed to occupy a space and often require a particular arrangement of objects, light, sound, and viewer interaction. Such works are typically site-specific, temporally bound, and sensitive to context. The installation is a central element of the piece rather than just a container for it.
