Innenmantel

Innenmantel is a term used in German technical language to denote the inner jacket or lining of a component with a double-walled or sectional construction. It defines the interior boundary, separating the process space from the outer structure. The Innenmantel often serves as a protective lining, providing thermal insulation, corrosion resistance, and a smooth or specified surface in contact with gases, liquids, or solids.

In heating and combustion technology, the Innenmantel may be the inner brickwork or ceramic lining of a furnace, boiler, or firebox, sometimes forming an integral part of a stoked vessel. It can be made of refractory bricks, ceramic tiles, or corrosion-resistant metals and alloys, selected for high temperature stability and chemical resistance. In vessels and heat exchangers with double walls, the Innenmantel constitutes the inner shell or lining that bears the process medium and resists erosion.

In architectural and building contexts, the term can describe the interior lining of a double-skin facade, or the inner surface of a protective mantle around a chimney or stove, contributing to heat retention or aesthetic finish.

Design considerations include compatibility with the outer mantle, thermal expansion, maintenance access, and the possibility of repair or replacement. The Innenmantel is distinct from the outer mantle (Außenmantel) and from decorative surfaces, and its specification is driven by operating conditions, safety regulations, and material science.
