Inktsystemen, or ink systems, refer to the methods and technologies used to deliver ink to a substrate in printing processes. These systems are crucial for achieving the desired image quality, color accuracy, and printing speed. Different printing techniques employ distinct ink systems, each tailored to specific applications and material properties.

Common ink systems include offset printing inks, which are viscous and designed to transfer from a plate to a rubber blanket and then to paper. Flexographic printing uses inks with lower viscosity, suitable for flexible packaging and labels, applied via a raised flexible plate. Gravure printing employs inks with even lower viscosity, which fill engraved cells on a cylinder and are transferred to the substrate under pressure. Inkjet printing utilizes liquid inks that are propelled through tiny nozzles onto the substrate, offering high resolution and versatility for various materials. Digital printing often relies on toner-based systems or specialized inkjet inks.

The composition of ink is also a vital part of the ink system. Inks can be water-based, solvent-based, or UV-curable. Water-based inks are environmentally friendly but may have limitations in drying speed and adhesion to certain surfaces. Solvent-based inks offer good adhesion and durability but can release volatile organic compounds. UV-curable inks harden rapidly when exposed to ultraviolet light, allowing for fast printing and excellent resistance. The choice of ink system and ink formulation significantly impacts the final printed product's appearance, performance, and environmental footprint.
