Inkjetpainatuksessa, or inkjet printing, is a digital printing process that creates images by applying droplets of ink onto a substrate. The process relies on piezoelectric or thermal nozzles that eject microdroplets, typically 1–10 µm in diameter. Inkjetprinting is used across many industries, from manufacturing packaging and signage to producing wearable fabrics and electronic components. The inks employed vary with the application: water‑based inks for paper, solvent‑based inks for plastic, UV‑curable inks for metal‑foil substrates, and conductive inks for printed electronics.

The technology offers high resolution, with line widths below 10 µm, and allows image manipulation directly from digital files. It accommodates a wide range of materials, including paper, polymer films, textiles, ceramics, and flexible electronics. Production can be rapid, making it suitable for small‑batch, custom, and on‑demand printing.

Advantages of inkjetprinting include its low set‑up cost, minimal waste, and the ability to print complex image gradients and multicolour designs without colour mixing steps required in offset printing. Disadvantages often involve slower throughput for large volumes, limited durability of inks on harsh substrates, and the need for precise environmental control to manage drying and adhesion. Recent advances in ink formulation, nozzle design, and software enhance its applicability, expanding the range of printable materials and encouraging its use in the growing market for printed electronics and additive manufacturing.
