Infrapunalähet

Infrapunalähet, also known as infrared transmitters, are devices that emit infrared light. This light is part of the electromagnetic spectrum, falling just beyond the visible red light. Infrared radiation is often associated with heat, as warm objects naturally emit infrared energy. Infrapunalähet utilize this property to send signals wirelessly over short distances.

The operation of an infrapunalähet involves a light-emitting diode (LED) specifically designed to produce infrared wavelengths. When an electrical signal is applied to the LED, it glows, emitting infrared light. These emissions are typically pulsed or modulated at specific frequencies to encode information. A corresponding infrared receiver, sensitive to these wavelengths, detects the light pulses and decodes them back into electrical signals.

Common applications for infrapunalähet include remote controls for televisions, air conditioners, and other home entertainment systems. They are also used in short-range data communication devices, such as some older cordless headphones and security sensors. The advantage of infrared communication is its simplicity and low cost, although its primary limitation is the need for a clear line of sight between the transmitter and receiver, as the signal cannot penetrate opaque objects. Furthermore, infrared communication is generally limited to relatively short ranges.
