Industrimålning

Industrimålning, or industrial painting, is the practice of applying protective coatings to industrial facilities, equipment, and structures to prevent corrosion, wear, and degradation, and to provide fire protection and chemical resistance. It combines surface preparation, coating selection, and controlled application to extend service life in harsh environments.

The scope includes steel structures, tanks, pipelines, vessels, machinery, and infrastructure across sectors such as oil and gas, chemical processing, power generation, maritime, manufacturing, and construction. The goal is to create a durable barrier between the substrate and the environment, while meeting regulatory and functional requirements.

The process typically begins with assessment of substrate and service conditions, followed by surface preparation (degreasing, rust removal, and abrasive blasting to standards such as near-white or Sa2½ per ISO 8501-1). Coating selection considers environment, chemical exposure, temperature, and service life. Application methods include brush, roller, spray, or airless spray, with attention to proper film thickness and defect control. Curing and drying are followed by quality control, including holidays, adhesion tests, and film thickness verification.

Coatings used range from epoxy and epoxy-polyurethane systems for corrosion protection, zinc-rich primers for sacrificial protection, to polyurethane and silicone topcoats for UV and chemical resistance. Intumescent and cementitious fireproofing coatings may be applied for passive fire protection, and specialty linings protect tanks and pipes.

Standards and practices reference ISO 12944 and related NACE/SSPC guidelines, with ongoing maintenance planning to determine re-coating cycles. Safety and environmental considerations include VOC management, ventilation, confined-space procedures, and sustainable life-cycle cost optimization.
