Industrimessig

Industrimessig is the term used in several languages for industrial-grade acetic acid, a colorless, pungent liquid used widely in industrial processes. It denotes either glacial acetic acid (very high concentration, near 100%) or solutions of acetic acid in water of various strengths used as solvents, reagents, or acidity regulators.

Production and forms: Industrial acetic acid is produced primarily by catalytic carbonylation of methanol to acetic acid and by oxidation routes, with both high-purity grades for chemical manufacture and technical grades for cleaning and processing. The term industrimessig generally covers technical-grade products intended for non-food uses.

Applications: Common uses include metal pickling and surface treatment, textile and paper processing, synthesis of esters and other chemicals, pH adjustment in chemical processes, and use as a cleaning agent or solvent in various industries. It can also serve as a component in formulations and as a precursor in chemical syntheses.

Safety and handling: It is corrosive to skin and eyes and can cause severe irritation and burns. Fumes may irritate the respiratory tract. Use appropriate personal protective equipment, ensure adequate ventilation, and store in corrosion-resistant containers. Spills should be contained with inert absorbents and neutralized with alkaline materials before disposal, following local regulations.
