Induktiokelaan, often referred to as an inductor, is a passive electrical component that stores energy in a magnetic field when electric current flows through it. It is essentially a coil of wire wound around a core, which can be made of various materials, including air, iron, or ferrite. The primary characteristic of an inductor is its inductance, measured in henries (H). Inductance quantifies an inductor's ability to oppose changes in the current flowing through it.

When the current through an inductor changes, a changing magnetic field is produced. This changing magnetic field, in turn, induces a voltage across the inductor that opposes the change in current. This phenomenon is known as self-inductance. The magnitude of this induced voltage is proportional to the rate of change of the current and the inductance of the coil.

Inductors are fundamental components in many electronic circuits. They are used for filtering, tuning, energy storage, and impedance matching. In radio frequency circuits, inductors are often used in conjunction with capacitors to form resonant circuits, which are essential for selecting specific frequencies. In power electronics, inductors are crucial for smoothing out current variations and storing energy in switching power supplies. The behavior of an inductor in a circuit is described by its inductance value and its resistance, which is due to the electrical resistance of the wire itself.
