Impactplannen

Impactplannen are documents that describe the intended social, environmental, or economic impact of a project or organization and how that impact will be achieved and measured. They are used to articulate the theory of change, set impact goals, and align activities with desired outcomes. They serve to inform funders, partners, and stakeholders, and to guide implementation, learning, and accountability.

A typical impactplan includes: a problem statement; the theory of change or logic model linking activities to intended outcomes; defined beneficiaries; a description of activities and expected outputs; impact statements or goals; indicators and targets to measure inputs, outputs, outcomes, and impact; data collection, quality assurance, and governance for monitoring and evaluation; a monitoring plan with reporting cadence; a risk assessment and assumptions; and a plan for sustainability and potential scaling or replication. It may also specify alignment with broader frameworks such as the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) or impact-investing standards like IRIS+.

Development often proceeds through stakeholder engagement, baseline data collection, and iterative refinement. In practice, impactplans are used by non-governmental organizations, social enterprises, and research or public-sector projects to secure funding, demonstrate accountability, and drive learning and improvement.

Limitations include the challenge of selecting meaningful indicators, data collection burdens, and the risk that measurement focuses on what is easy to track rather than what matters.
