Ilmaeristettyjä is a Finnish term that translates to "air-insulated" or "air-gap insulated" in English. It refers to a type of insulation or construction method where an air space is intentionally incorporated to reduce heat transfer. This air gap acts as a thermal barrier, slowing down the flow of heat through conduction and convection.

In construction, air-insulated elements are commonly found in building envelopes. For instance, double-glazed windows create an air gap between the glass panes, which significantly improves their insulating properties compared to single-glazed windows. Similarly, walls can be designed with internal air cavities, often filled with additional insulating materials, to enhance thermal performance.
