Ihnassa

Ihnassa is a former commune in Iași County, Romania. It was part of Cucuteni-Trypillia culture and was the location of a Neolithic settlement. The settlement was discovered in the early 20th century and excavations were conducted to study the periodically lived houses. The houses of the settlement were mostly found in good condition, providing valuable information about the community.

Ihnassa also houses a notable archaeological site which includes remains of a fortified settlement, dating back to the Iron Age. Various artifacts were discovered during the excavation, such as pottery, jewelry, and a significant number of loom weights used for the textile industry. The settlement was likely inhabited by agricultural communities, with a focus on weaving and textiles.

The site has been dated back to around 2700 BC, suggesting a strong connection with the Cucuteni-Trypillia culture, which was an early complex of Copper Age societies. The architecture and the village's layout suggest that it was divided into distinct living spaces. Finds of grain seeds and remains of dairy products indicate a significant level of agricultural activity. There were significant finds of triangular decorations, common in the local culture, found on some of the earthenware vessels.

Ihnassa is considered a valuable archaeological site, providing insights into the lifestyle and developments of early settlers in the region. Its remains give a comprehensive view of a Neolithic community's way of life, although much of its ancient history remains to be studied in more detail.
