IgEvälitteisissä refers to the concentration of immunoglobulin E (IgE) antibodies in a person's blood serum. IgE is a class of antibodies produced by the immune system. While IgE plays a crucial role in the immune response against certain parasites, it is also primarily associated with allergic reactions.

Elevated levels of IgE in the blood, often referred to as hyperimmunoglobulinemia E, can indicate an underlying allergic condition or an increased susceptibility to allergies. This condition is commonly linked to conditions such as atopic dermatitis, asthma, and allergic rhinitis. It can also be associated with rare genetic disorders like Hyper-IgE syndrome, also known as Job's syndrome, which presents with recurrent infections and characteristic skin and lung abnormalities.

Measuring total IgE levels in serum is a common diagnostic tool used by allergists and immunologists. Elevated total IgE is not specific to a single allergen; rather, it indicates a general allergic tendency. To identify specific triggers, further testing, such as allergen-specific IgE testing (e.g., skin prick tests or RAST tests), is often performed. Low levels of IgE are generally not clinically significant unless there is a suspicion of immunodeficiency, in which case other immune parameters would be investigated.
