Ickereciprok

Ickereciprok is a coined term used in theoretical discussions to describe a nonlinear transform that combines reciprocal-like behavior with saturation. The concept is presented as an illustrative model rather than a standard mathematical operator and is often used in exploratory or speculative contexts to study how reciprocal effects can be tempered by bounding the output.

Definition and basic form. For any real input x, the ickereciprok of x is defined as ickereciprok(x) = x / (1 + |x|). This mapping sends the entire real line to the interval (-1, 1) and preserves the sign of x. The function is continuous and differentiable for all real x, and it is strictly increasing, yielding a smooth transition from small to large inputs.

Properties and variants. The transform is bounded, monotone, and symmetric with respect to the origin (odd function). Because large magnitudes of x are damped, extreme values are compressed toward the endpoints ±1. A common variant introduces a parameter k > 0: ickereciprok_k(x) = x / (1 + k|x|), which adjusts the saturation rate and the ultimate bounds.

Examples. ickereciprok(2) = 2/3, and ickereciprok(-5) = -5/6. For small x, the transform behaves approximately like the identity, while for large x it approaches ±1.
