IPv4specifik is a term used to describe aspects of network configuration, behavior, or features that are specific to the IPv4 protocol. It is not an official standard, but appears in documentation and discussions to distinguish IPv4-only elements from IPv6 or dual-stack configurations.

Key characteristics of IPv4-specific behavior include the 32-bit addressing in dotted decimal form, subnetting using CIDR, and the use of ARP to map IPv4 addresses to MAC addresses on local networks. IPv4 headers carry fields such as version, header length, DSCP/ECN, total length, identification, flags, fragment offset, TTL, protocol, header checksum, and source/destination addresses. Routing and fragmentation tactics also reflect IPv4 constraints.

NAT and DHCP are common IPv4-specific mechanisms; private address spaces (RFC 1918), port address translation (PAT) and IPv4 address exhaustion have driven deployment considerations. ICMP is used for diagnostics (ping, traceroute) with IPv4-specific message types. Security concerns include ARP spoofing and fragmentation-based attacks.

In practice, IPv4specifik serves as a labeling construct in configuration guides, policy documents, and inventory databases to ensure IPv4-only devices, routes, or ACLs are managed separately from IPv6 or dual-stack elements. It emphasizes compatibility and transition planning as networks migrate to or coexist with IPv6.
