ICCprofiilinsa is a term commonly encountered in Estonian-language discussions of colour management and refers to what English-language texts call an ICC profile. An ICC profile is a data file that describes how a device reproduces color and how colors should be transformed within a color-managed workflow. It serves as a bridge between a device’s native color space and a device-independent profile connection space, enabling consistent colour appearance across devices such as monitors, printers, and scanners.

ICC profiles follow standards set by the International Color Consortium. They describe the device space (for example, display RGB or printer CMYK), the profile connection space (typically CIEXYZ or CIELAB), and the transfer characteristics that govern how input values map to output values. Profiles may also include rendering intents that guide how colours outside the device’s gamut are handled during conversions.

Files and usage: ICC profiles use .icc or .icm extensions and can be embedded in image files or installed in a system so that software can access them. They are used by color management modules in operating systems and applications to translate colours from a working space to a target device’s colour space, ensuring more predictable results in design, photography, and printing workflows.

Creation and types: Profiles can be created by measuring a known colour target with a spectrophotometer and profiling software, or provided by device manufacturers. There are device profiles (for displays, printers, scanners) and device-link profiles (which directly map colours between two devices).
