In the Swedish media landscape prominent examples include newspapers such as Dagens Nyheter and Svenska Dagbladet, the public service TV channel SVT and the public radio broadcaster Sveriges Radio. Internationally, outlets that would be considered part of this category are the BBC, The New York Times, and The Washington Post.

Högstatusmedier are often regarded as gatekeepers of public information. Their editorial choices and investigative priorities influence national political debate, set news agendas, and shape the public perception of political events.
