Sveriges

Sveriges, in Swedish, is the term for the country commonly known in English as Sweden. In Swedish the country is Sverige, and Sveriges is the genitive form used in phrases such as Sveriges regering (the Government of Sweden).

Sverige is a Nordic country located on the Scandinavian Peninsula in Northern Europe. It borders Norway to the west and Finland to the east, with a long Baltic Sea coastline and access to the Gulf of Bothnia in the north. The capital and largest city is Stockholm; major urban centers include Gothenburg and Malmö. The country covers about 450,000 square kilometers and has a population of around 10.5 million.

Sverige is a constitutional monarchy with a parliamentary democracy. The unicameral Riksdag, with 349 members, elects the prime minister who serves as head of government; the monarchy is largely ceremonial. Sweden joined the European Union in 1995 and the Schengen Area in 2001. It has not adopted the euro and continues to use the Swedish krona (SEK). The economy is advanced and highly diversified, with strong welfare provisions. Key sectors include automotive manufacturing (Volvo, Scania), telecommunications (Ericsson), and various high‑tech industries, services, and natural resources. Sweden is known for innovation, a skilled workforce, and a robust welfare state.

Geography features extensive forests, thousands of lakes, archipelagos along the coast, and a boreal climate that shifts to subarctic in the far north. The south tends to be temperate with long daylight summers. The Nobel Prizes are awarded in Stockholm, which also hosts many cultural institutions.

Society emphasizes equality, education, and environmental sustainability. The official language is Swedish; minority languages are recognized, and English is widely spoken. Swedish culture is noted for design, music, literature, and a tradition of social‑democratic policymaking.
