Hyperliikkuvuuteen, often translated as hypermobility, refers to a condition where an individual's joints move beyond the normal range of motion. This can affect one or more joints throughout the body. While some people with hypermobility experience no significant issues, others may suffer from joint pain, fatigue, dislocations, or an increased risk of injuries like sprains and strains.

Hypermobility can be a symptom of an underlying connective tissue disorder, such as Ehlers-Danlos syndromes, or it can occur in isolation. The degree of hypermobility can vary greatly among individuals. Diagnosis typically involves a physical examination by a healthcare professional, often using the Beighton score to assess the extent of joint laxity.

Management strategies focus on preventing injury and managing symptoms. This often includes physiotherapy to strengthen the muscles around the joints, improving proprioception (the body's sense of its position in space), and adopting protective measures during physical activities. Education about the condition and self-management techniques are also crucial. In some cases, pain management strategies may be employed. While there is no cure for hypermobility itself, its associated symptoms can often be effectively managed.
