Hygieniaapu

Hygieniaapu refers to a traditional Finnish practice of maintaining personal hygiene through the use of a wooden tool known as a *hygieniapu* (literally "hygiene stick"). This tool, often made from birch or pine, has been used for centuries, particularly in rural and northern Finnish communities, as a natural alternative to modern hygiene products.

The hygieniapu is typically a small, roughly carved stick, sometimes with a slight notch or groove at one end. It was primarily used for cleaning the anus after defecation, though it could also serve other personal hygiene purposes. The wood was believed to be effective due to its natural antibacterial properties, as well as its ability to absorb moisture. Unlike commercial toilet paper, the hygieniapu was often reused after being washed and dried, making it a practical and cost-effective solution in areas where other hygiene products were scarce.
