Hydrograafisessa

Hydrograafisessa is the inessive singular form of the Finnish adjective hydrograafinen, used to describe something related to hydrography, the science of measuring and describing bodies of water and their shores.

Hydrography studies oceans, seas, rivers, and lakes, focusing on water depths, coastlines, tides, currents, and seabed features to produce reliable navigational products and scientific data.

Practices include hydrographic surveying with echo sounding, multibeam sonar, LiDAR for shallow areas, GNSS positioning, tide gauge networks, and satellite altimetry. The collected data are compiled into nautical charts, bathymetric maps, and electronic navigational charts.

In Finnish, the form hydrograafisessa appears in phrases such as hydrograafisessa kartoituksessa (in hydrographic surveying) or hydrograafisessa kartassa (in a hydrographic chart).
