Humidityassisted is an umbrella term used to describe processes, materials, and reactions whose outcomes depend on ambient humidity or controlled moisture levels. It is not tied to a single field but describes leveraging moisture to enable, accelerate, or modify a transformation.

The mechanisms involve water molecules acting as solvent, plasticizer, or reactant. Relative humidity influences moisture sorption, diffusion, and phase behavior, which can alter crystallization, hydration, polymer flexibility, and reaction kinetics.

Applications span multiple domains. In agriculture, regulated humidity improves seed germination and plant tissue handling. In materials science, humidity affects crystallization, curing of polymers, and hydration of cementitious systems. In coatings and thin films, controlled humidity can influence film formation, adhesion, and defect density. In the food and pharmaceutical sectors, moisture can govern texture, stability, and hydrate formation.

Control is achieved through humidity management tools such as sealed chambers, humidifiers or desiccants, and RH sensors with feedback. The optimal humidity window is highly context-specific and balances speed, quality, and safety.

Challenges include microbial growth at high humidity, corrosion or swelling of moisture-sensitive materials, and variability due to environmental fluctuations. Accurate sensing and robust control are essential for reproducibility.
