Hostipõhine

Hostipõhine is an Estonian term that translates to "host-based" in English. It describes a type of security or management system that operates on individual computer systems or hosts, rather than at a network level.

In the context of cybersecurity, host-based security refers to tools and strategies deployed directly on a server or workstation to protect it. Examples include host-based firewalls, intrusion detection systems (HIDS), antivirus software, and endpoint detection and response (EDR) solutions. These systems monitor processes, files, and network activity on the host itself, looking for malicious behavior or policy violations.

Host-based management involves configuring and controlling individual machines. This can include software installation, configuration management, patch deployment, and system monitoring. Unlike network-based management, which might manage devices through network protocols, host-based management typically involves agents or direct access to the operating system of each host.

The advantage of host-based approaches is their granular control and ability to protect individual systems even if the network perimeter is breached. However, managing and securing a large number of hosts individually can be complex and resource-intensive. Often, host-based security and management are used in conjunction with network-based solutions to create a layered security posture.
