Hjalprek
Hjalprek is a mythological creature that appears in early Norse sagas and later Scandinavian folklore. The name, derived from the Old Norse words hjálpr meaning helper and rekkr meaning raid, is sometimes translated as “helper of raids” or “raid-bringer.” In the surviving texts, Hjalprek is described as a large, winged beast with the body of a stag, the wings of a falcon, and a long, serpentine tail. Its eyes are said to glow with a blue fire, and its hooves are sometimes described as producing thunderous sounds when it strides across the earth.
According to the Saga of the Jomsvikings, Hjalprek would escort marauding Viking fleets through the North Sea,
