Hitsausvirtalähde is the Finnish term for a welding power source. It is the essential component of any welding setup that provides the electrical energy needed to create the arc for melting and joining metal. These devices convert incoming mains electricity into the specific type and amount of current required for different welding processes.

There are several types of welding power sources, each suited for particular applications. Common types include transformer-based, inverter-based, and motor-generator-based units. Transformer types are generally robust and simpler but heavier and less energy-efficient. Inverter power sources are more modern, offering better control over welding parameters, lighter weight, and higher efficiency, but can be more complex.
