Hitsausta
Hitsausta is the process of permanently joining metals by heating them to or above their melting point and allowing the parts to fuse, often with a filler material. It covers a range of technologies that create a metallurgical bond through heat, frequently with shielding to protect the molten metal from oxidation. The most common welding methods today are arc welding, resistance welding, and solid-state welding. Arc welding uses an electric arc as the heat source and includes shielded metal arc welding (SMAW, known as stick welding), gas metal arc welding (GMAW or MIG/MAG), gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW or TIG), and submerged arc welding (SAW). Resistance welding relies on electrical resistance and pressure, and includes spot and seam welding. Solid-state welding methods, such as friction stir welding, join metals without melting the base materials.
