Heuristilisteks, also known as heuristic evaluation, is a usability inspection method used in user experience (UX) design to identify potential usability problems in a user interface (UI) or system. The term derives from "heuristic," which refers to practical, experience-based techniques for problem-solving, and "evaluation," the process of assessing the quality of a design.

In heuristic evaluation, a small group of evaluators, often experts in usability or human-computer interaction, examines a system against a set of established usability heuristics—general principles for interface design. These heuristics, such as those proposed by Jakob Nielsen, include guidelines like ensuring consistency, providing clear feedback, and minimizing user memory load. Evaluators independently review the interface, noting issues where the design deviates from these principles.

The process is typically conducted without direct user testing, making it cost-effective and efficient. Evaluators may use checklists, walkthroughs, or think-aloud protocols to systematically assess the interface. The findings are then compiled to highlight usability problems, prioritize fixes, and guide iterative improvements.

Heuristic evaluation is particularly useful in early design phases, where it can uncover fundamental flaws before extensive development. While it may not identify all usability issues—especially those specific to individual users—it provides a structured approach to uncovering common problems. When combined with other methods like user testing or cognitive walkthroughs, heuristic evaluation offers a comprehensive way to refine and optimize user interfaces.
