Heißkaschierens

Heißkaschieren, also known as hot melt lamination, is a process used to bond materials together using a thermoplastic adhesive that melts when heated and solidifies when cooled. This technique is widely employed in various industries for its efficiency and versatility. The core principle involves applying a molten adhesive to one substrate, then pressing a second substrate onto it before the adhesive cools. The heat activates the adhesive, allowing it to flow and create a strong bond as it solidifies.

The process typically begins with heating the adhesive, often in the form of pellets, granules, or a film, to its melting point. This molten adhesive is then precisely applied to one of the surfaces to be joined. Various application methods exist, including slot die coaters, spray applicators, or roller coaters, depending on the adhesive type and the desired coating width. Once the adhesive is applied, the second substrate is immediately brought into contact with it. Pressure is applied, either through nip rollers or a heated press, to ensure thorough contact and adhesion between the layers.

Heißkaschieren is favored for its speed, as the cooling and solidification of the adhesive are rapid, allowing for immediate handling of the laminated product. It also offers a clean application, often without the need for solvents, making it an environmentally friendlier option in some cases. The resulting bond can be strong and durable, resistant to moisture and chemicals depending on the adhesive chosen. Applications range from packaging and textiles to automotive components and graphic arts, where it is used to create protective layers, enhance visual appeal, or improve structural integrity.
