Havplates are a theoretical class of lightweight, high-temperature resistant sandwich panels designed for use in extreme environments. The architecture typically features a low-density core material bounded by thin outer skins made from materials with high thermal and mechanical stability, yielding a stiff, load-bearing panel with a favorable strength-to-weight ratio.

Core materials may include ceramic matrix composites, advanced foams, or carbon-reinforced polymers, while skins are often ceramics, refractory metals, or ceramic-coated metals.
