Hauturtikaria

Hauturtikaria, also known as urticaria or hives, is a common skin condition characterized by the sudden appearance of raised, itchy welts or bumps on the skin. These welts, often referred to as wheals, can vary in size and shape and may appear anywhere on the body. The intensity of the itching can range from mild to severe.

Hauturtikaria is an allergic reaction where the body releases histamine and other chemicals, causing small blood vessels in the skin to leak fluid. This fluid buildup creates the characteristic wheals. Common triggers include certain foods, medications, insect bites or stings, and environmental allergens like pollen or pet dander. In some cases, physical factors such as pressure, cold, heat, or sunlight can also induce urticaria. Stress and viral infections are also recognized triggers.

The condition can be acute, meaning it lasts for less than six weeks, or chronic, persisting for more than six weeks. Acute urticaria often resolves on its own within hours or days, while chronic urticaria can be more persistent and may require medical intervention to manage. Diagnosis typically involves a medical history and physical examination. Allergy testing may be recommended to identify specific triggers. Treatment usually focuses on alleviating itching and inflammation, often with antihistamines. In more severe or persistent cases, other medications or treatments may be considered.
