Hastighedsmåleren

Hastighedsmåleren, often translated as speedometer, is an instrument that measures and displays the instantaneous speed of a vehicle. It is a crucial component in modern vehicles, providing drivers with essential information for safe and legal operation. The most common type of speedometer in older vehicles uses a mechanical linkage connected to the transmission or wheels. This linkage spins a cable, which in turn rotates a magnet inside a cup. The magnetic field causes the cup, which is attached to a pointer, to rotate against a calibrated scale, indicating the speed. Modern vehicles predominantly employ electronic speedometers. These utilize sensors, typically located at the transmission or wheel hubs, that generate electrical signals proportional to the rotation speed. These signals are then processed by the vehicle's computer and displayed on a digital readout or a needle on an analog gauge. The accuracy of a speedometer is important, as exceeding speed limits can lead to fines and dangerous driving conditions. Many countries have regulations regarding the permissible error margin for vehicle speedometers. In some cases, a separate odometer is integrated with the speedometer to record the total distance traveled by the vehicle.
