Harzfüllungen

Harzfüllungen, often referred to as resin fillings or composite restorations, are a type of dental filling material used to repair teeth affected by decay or damage. These fillings are made from a mixture of plastic and glass particles, which creates a durable and aesthetically pleasing restoration. Unlike older filling materials like amalgam, resin fillings are tooth-colored and can be closely matched to the natural shade of the patient's teeth, making them virtually unnoticeable.

The process of placing a harzfüllung typically involves cleaning out the decayed portion of the tooth. The tooth surface is then prepared and treated with a bonding agent. The resin material is applied in layers, with each layer hardened using a special curing light. This light initiates a chemical reaction that solidifies the resin. Once the filling is complete, it is shaped and polished to blend seamlessly with the surrounding tooth structure. Harzfüllungen are known for their good bonding strength to the tooth, helping to prevent further decay. While generally durable, they may not last as long as some other filling materials and can be susceptible to staining over time.
