Harjoitukseen

Harjoitukseen is the illative singular form of the Finnish noun harjoitus, which means practice, drill, exercise, or training session. The illative case shows direction toward or entry into something, so harjoitukseen generally translates as “to the practice” or “to the training session,” depending on context.

The noun harjoitus refers to a wide range of organized activities intended to develop a skill or condition. It can describe sports practice, classroom or lab exercises, rehearsal sessions, or physical therapy and rehabilitation programs. In everyday language, it is common to talk about a scheduled practice, such as a sports team’s harjoitus, or about participating in one, for example with the illative harjoitukseen.

Morphology and usage notes: harjoitus is formed from the verb harjoittaa (to practice, to train) with the nominalizing suffix -itus. The illative suffix -en/-ukseen/-ukseen attaches to the word stem to indicate movement toward the event or activity. For example, mennä harjoitukseen means “to go to the practice,” and osallistua harjoitukseen means “to participate in the practice.”
