Harava

Harava is a garden tool commonly used in gardening and landscaping to collect leaves, grass clippings, and other light debris, as well as to loosen and level the soil surface. It typically consists of a handle attached to a head with multiple tines. The tool is used with a pushing and pulling motion to sweep debris into piles or to break up thatch and loosen compacted soil.

There are several common types of harava. A leaf rake has flexible plastic or metal tines designed to gather loose material without damaging turf. A garden or lawn rake uses stiffer steel tines for tougher tasks such as breaking up clods, leveling soil, or removing thatch. Handles are usually made of wood, steel, fiberglass, or reinforced plastic, and tines can be made from metal or durable plastic. Head widths vary, typically ranging from about 20 to 60 centimeters, with total lengths often between 120 and 180 centimeters.

Maintenance and usage considerations include cleaning the tines after use, drying to prevent rust, and periodically inspecting for bent tines. When not in use, store harava in a dry place. For user comfort and effectiveness, choose a rake with an appropriate width and a handle length suited to the user’s height, and use gloves to protect hands during operation.
