Haradrim

The Haradrim, also known as the Southrons, were the peoples who inhabited the vast lands of Harad in the south of Middle-earth. Their origins and exact nature are not fully detailed, but they were a diverse collection of tribes and nations, distinct from the Men of the West. Throughout the Third Age, the Haradrim were frequently allied with the Dark Lord Sauron, serving as a formidable military force.

Their armies were known for their ferocity and their use of Mumakil, or Oliphaunts, as war beasts. These colossal creatures instilled terror in their enemies and provided a significant advantage in battle. The Haradrim fought against Gondor on numerous occasions, particularly during the War of the Ring. They participated in major assaults on Gondor's territories, including the Battle of the Pelennor Fields, where they fought alongside Orcs and Easterlings.

The Haradrim were characterized by their distinctive appearance, often described as dark-skinned and wearing brightly colored garments. Their culture and social structures varied among the different peoples of Harad, but their loyalty to Sauron, when it existed, was often absolute. Their lands were rich in resources, and their warriors were skilled in combat, making them a significant power in the southern regions of Middle-earth. Despite their eventual defeat alongside Sauron's forces, the Haradrim remained a distinct and enduring element of the world Tolkien created.
