Hapfires
Hapfires, also known as "happy fires," are a phenomenon observed in certain species of bioluminescent fungi. These fungi, when exposed to specific environmental conditions such as high humidity and low light, emit a soft, greenish-yellow glow. The intensity of the glow can vary, sometimes appearing as a faint glimmer and at other times as a more noticeable luminescence. The term "hapfires" is a colloquialism and not a scientific designation.
The biological mechanism behind this light production is chemiluminescence, similar to that seen in fireflies and
Hapfires are most commonly found in damp, shaded environments like decaying wood, forest floors, and caves.
