Hamnområdet is a term used in Swedish to describe the part of a city or town that lies along its harbor or waterfront. The area traditionally includes quays, docks, shipyards, warehouses, and related infrastructure, and may extend inland to encompass adjacent residential, commercial, and industrial districts. Its form and scale vary, but the core identity is tied to maritime activity and access to water.

Historically, hamnområden emerged around major ports as centers for loading, unloading, and storage of goods, and served as hubs for shipbuilding, customs, and transit. With changes in shipping and industry, many harbor areas experienced decline in the late 20th century, prompting redevelopment projects to repurpose land. In the post-industrial era, these districts often shifted toward services, housing, and culture while preserving remnants of their maritime heritage.

Today, hamnområden are frequently mixed-use districts combining housing, offices, cultural venues, retail, and leisure.
