Deep wounds, those with significant bleeding, or wounds caused by animal bites or dirty objects generally require professional medical evaluation and treatment. Pain management may also be a part of wound care, with over-the-counter pain relievers being suitable for minor discomfort. Tetanus vaccination status should also be considered, especially for puncture wounds or wounds contaminated with soil.
