Généreringssystemer is a term found in Scandinavian languages that translates roughly to "generation systems." It describes the organized set of equipment, processes, and controls used to convert a primary input—such as fuel, sunlight, or waste—into a usable form of energy, heat, or material output. The term is commonly used in discussions of energy supply, district heating, and industrial production.

A generation system typically includes a primary energy source, energy conversion equipment (such as turbines, engines, photovoltaic modules, or boilers), energy storage, distribution infrastructure, and control and safety systems. It may also incorporate management software for monitoring, optimization, and coordination with the electrical grid or local networks.

Common types range from fossil-fuel and nuclear plants to hydro, wind, solar photovoltaic, and geothermal installations. Hybrid and distributed configurations pair intermittent sources with dispatchable units or storage. In regional planning, microgrids and district energy systems are treated as specialized generation-system variants designed to operate independently or in concert with the main grid.

Key design considerations include capacity, reliability, efficiency, emissions, fuel or resource costs, and lifecycle economics. Environmental impact, land and water use, regulatory compliance, safety, and interoperability with grid standards are also important. Modern systems rely on automation, remote monitoring, predictive maintenance, and modular architectures to improve resilience and flexibility.
